      学校概况

       威廉玛丽学院college of william and mary于1693年由英国国王威廉三世和女王玛丽二世创立,是英国在美国殖民地创立的第二所大学。1776年,该校与英国脱离关系,1906年成为公立大学,1918年男女合校,直到1967年才成为现代综合性大学。学校的硬件和软件环境都是超一流,目前已经位列美国名校。

       课程设置

       威廉与玛丽学院设有文理学院、海洋科学学院、教育学院、商业管理学院和法学院等五个学院,有数十个专业,设计领域较广,大都具有很强的科研学术实力,可以授予硕士、博士学位,一些学科还在相应领域具有相当影响力。

       学生对教职员的比率是11:1,因此几乎所有的大学生的课堂都是由教授教。

College of William and Mary is a public institution that was founded in 1693. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 6,271, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 1,200 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. College of William and Mary's ranking in the 2015 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, 33. Its in-state tuition and fees are $17,656 (2014-15); out-of-state tuition and fees are $39,360 (2014-15).
 
The College of William and Mary is second oldest college in the country. It was founded by King William III and Queen Mary II of England. The school’s NCAA Division I varsity sports teams, known as the "Tribe," participate in the Colonial Athletic Association. Students are involved with the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity, the nation’s first academic Greek society, as well as other fraternities and sororities on campus. All freshmen are required to live on campus and the majority of upperclassmen live on campus as well. The school is located in historic downtown Williamsburg, Va. 
 
The school has more than 30 undergraduate programs and more than 10 graduate programs and professional degree programs. Its highly ranked graduate schools include the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, the School of Education and the Mason School of Business. William and Mary was the first school to create a student honor code, and its Marshall-Wythe School of Law is nation’s first law school. The school is also steeped in traditions, including the ringing of the Wren bell by graduating seniors in the Sir Christopher Wren Building, the oldest college building in the nation. Notable alumni include three U.S. presidents - Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and John Tyler, as well as former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, actress Glenn Close and comedians Jon Stewart and Patton Oswalt.
 
According to the school, founded by Royal Charter in 1693, William & Mary is the second oldest institution of higher education in the country. It has a long history of liberal arts education and a growing research and science curriculum that demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate research. Included among the nation's prestigious Public Ivies, the public university is dedicated to a philosophy of personalized education exemplified through small class size and extensive student-faculty collaboration. Known as the alma mater of a nation, William & Mary has educated three American Presidents, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe and John Tyler, and claims several firsts, including the 1776 creation of Phi Beta Kappa, the country's first academic honor society, and the first collegiate law school, established in 1779.
